Vilano Beach has a charming town center with beautiful tiled fountains and some of the finest waterfront restaurants on Florida’s Northeast Coast. The wooden deck at Cap’s on the Water is a great spot to take in the sunset while dining on traditional Southern seafood dishes with Mediterranean influences. Cap’s also has a relaxed oyster bar with delicious freshly caught oysters served steamed, baked, or raw.
The Reef Restaurant combines fresh local seafood with spectacular Atlantic Ocean views. Specialties such as ginger curry mahi-mahi and steamed snow crab are paired with an impressive international wine list. The Reef Restaurant also hosts live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. Aunt Kate’s Restaurant has been a local fixture since 1900. Aunt Kate’s current location on the Intracoastal Waterway opened in 2009 and continues a century-long tradition of sublime waterfront seafood dining. Their menu includes familiar favorites such as steamed oysters, fried fish, shrimp, and crabs alongside more unusual specialties like fried alligator tail.
Kingfish Grill is a casual and family-friendly seafood dining destination next to the docks at Camachee Cove Yacht Harbor. Meals are paired with drinks from a full bar stocked with premium gins, rums, scotches, and vodkas. Kingfish Grill also features indoor and outdoor dining spaces with regular live music on the weekend.
Vilano Beach is located just across the Matanzas Inlet from St. Augustine’s historic downtown district. Here, Spanish Colonial and Spanish Renaissance Revival buildings dating back to the 1700s line streets that have existed for even longer. Downtown St. Augustine features lots of shops and restaurants alongside attractions such as the interactive living history museum at Colonial Quarter and the Lightner Museum’s collection of Gilded Age curiosities housed within the gorgeous 1888 Alcazar Hotel.
South Ponte Vedra Beach Recreation Area is a scenic sandy stretch of beach where popular activities include picnicking and beachcombing. Vilano Beach receives lots of heavy surf due to its location near the Matanzas Inlet, making it an ideal destination for surfing and skimboarding. This gorgeous and peaceful beach is often dotted with seashells and shark teeth. The pier at Vilano Beach is a popular fishing spot and a great place to see the sunset over St. Augustine. In August, Vilano Beach hosts the annual Florida Skimboarding Pro/Am Tournament.
